I recommend The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Liesel Meminger is a young girl growing up in Nazi Germany. She is sent to live with Hans and Rosa Hubermann, who are hiding a Jewish refugee in their basement. Narrated by Death, the book follows Liesel as she learns to read from books stolen from Nazi book burning and discovers more about her past, why she was sent to live with Hans and Rosa, and is exposed to the atrocities committed in Nazi Germany.
This is one of my favorite books because it shows the perspective of a regular German citizen through the idea of Death. The narrative is very interesting and emotional. Also Markus Zusak is God.

This book is great because it is about the length one will go to in order to help loved ones. It shows a different perspective of World War II. It is about the strength that is within us all to do important things.
