This is a true story about a boy named Arn in Cambodia.  When the Khmer Rouge invades, Arn is sent to work on a farm.  He and his family become separated.  I think unity is portrayed in this book because Arn’s work group is asked, “who can play an instrument?”  Arn has never played a note before but he volunteers.  Over the next few years, Arn’s band learns that to live under the rule of Khmer Rouge, they have to play and they have to play perfect.  None of the boys know how to play, but slowly learn.  They work together to live and to survive.  I think people who like non-fiction that is full of action, survival, and death will enjoy this book.
