"Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury was first published in 1953 as a cautionary tale about what the world might look like if things continued as they were without change. Bradbury called himself a 'preventor' of futures as opposed to a predictor. Unfortunately, he pretty much accurately described the society we have today. Bradbury himself said that the book was not really about censorship (book burning) but the real messages of Fahrenheit 451 were about the dangers of an illiterate society infatuated with mass media and the threat of minority and special interest groups to books. He was right.
