Mary Shelly Fun Facts!
1. Mary Shelley was born on August 30, 1797, in London, England
2. The first edition of Frankenstein was published in 1818, when Shelly was only 20 years old. She had finished writing the book at age 19!
3. Mary Shelly had a series of unfortunate events occur throughout her life, including the death of three out of her four children, the suicide of her half-sister Fanny and the death of her husband, the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, who drown on a boating trip in the Gulf of Spezia. All of these tragedies happened before she was 24 years old!
4. The book Frankenstein has inspired more than 130 films, starting with the silent film Frankenstein in 1910.
5.Mary Shelley died of brain cancer on February 1, 1851, at age 53, in London, England. She was buried at St. Peter's Church in Bournemouth, laid to rest alongside her father and mother and with the cremated remains of her late husband's heart.
